الفرق بين maybe و may be و a lot of وlots of في اللغة الانجليزية
هذا شرحا من أستاذة لغة بريطانية وأستاذة أمريكية للفرق بين :
1) maybe and may be
2) a lot of and lots of
أولا - الأستاذة البريطانية :
Maybe means perhaps, and it often comes at the beginning of a sentence
Maybe it'll be sunny tomorrow
With "may be" you have a modal (may) followed by the base form of the verb (be
It may be sunny tomorrow
There is no grammatical difference between a lot of and lots of, as far as I know
ثانيا - الأستاذة الأمريكية :
'Maybe' is an adverb. It modifies the verb, or another adjective or adverb
On the other hand, 'may' + 'be' are two words. 'May' is a modal auxiliary that expresses possibility, as you know. So if we say
John may be late
it means that John might/could be late, or that possibly John will be late
You could put other auxiliary verbs in place of 'may' to express different meanings: should be/ will be/ would be/ could be/ might be, etc
'A lot of' and 'lots of' have the same meaning
The difference is one of degree of formality
'A lot of' is neither formal nor informal, but 'lots of' is a bit informal
