The difference between 'natural' and 'artificial
What's the difference between 'natural' and 'artificial'? How do you use the adverbs 'naturally' and 'artificially' in a sentence? Read on to learn more.

'Natural' describes things that happen or exist on their own without people.

"When you visit the Busselton Jetty Observatory, it's all a natural environment which is pretty special."

The adverb is 'naturally'.

"You can see things like corals and sponges naturally colonise here."

Things that have been made are described as 'artificial'.

"The Busselton Jetty Observatory is Australia's largest artificial reef."

The adverb is 'artificially'.

"We don't artificially put marine life here."

'Observatory' can refer to an area when you go and observe something.

For example, an underwater observatory can refer to going to a place where you can observe marine life.

"The underwater observatory sits on the ocean floor."

The bottom of the ocean is called the 'ocean floor'.

"The underwater observatory is very different from an aquarium because it shows people what is underneath the jetty."

If you want to talk about something below something else, you can use the following:

   Underneath
   Beneath
   Under
