The difference among hurt, sore, and ache

The difference among hurt, sore, and ache
All of them are descriptions of pain but each a little different.

Hurt generally describes an injury. "I hurt myself when I tripped and fell."

Sore can be muscles or actual broken skin with scab. "My back is sore from working out." " I have a sore on my finger."

Ache is a generalized persistent pain. "I have a head ache tonight."

Hurt is most frequently used as a verb (to hurt):

Transitive: I hurt my foot. Here it means I injured /damaged my foot. (This can be confusing, because it may not actually mean that I, personally, inflicted damage to my own foot! It can just mean that something has happened which hurt my foot.)

Intransitive: My foot hurts. Here its meaning is similar to ache.

Occasionally as an adjective: Here it means damaged/injured.

I have a hurt knee.
Occasionally as a noun: Here it means the same as wound.

I have a hurt deep in my heart from when he left me.

Ache is used as an intransitive verb, to describe a pain that continues for some time and is not very intense:

My back has been aching all day.

As an adjective:

I have an aching head.

As a noun, to describe that the of pain as above.

I have had an ache in my leg since last week.

However!!! More commonly we add ache to the specfic 'body part' noun:

I have a headache/stomachache/toothache etc.

Sore is never used as a verb.

As a noun, it means an injury caused by rubbing such as a blister which has burst. Horses can get saddle sores, for example! (We hope they don't!)

He has a sore on his foot from ill-fitting shoes.

As an adjective it describes a more intense pain than an ache, often (but not always) a pain that is not felt unless the affected area is touched.

"Ow!! That's sore"!

I have such a sore spot on my shoulder, I can't bear for anyone to touch it.

This seems very long, but I don't know how to give you enough information more concisely.
